Overall Thoughts of Passion Projects

The Passion Project I chose was Science Discovery. There were many other choices but I got that one. In my group, there was me, Caleb, Greg and Jack we had decided on making a Lego gun that shoots rubber bands and shoots them fast.

While doing this I learned how to make a trigger mechanism and how it works. The way that it works it you would pull the trigger then it would rotate all the gears thee the rubber band would get launched forward.

The part I enjoyed was making the gun because it was easy but also challenging. 

Something that I disliked was having to put the gun back together after it broke.

Next, I did something like this I would choose something different because I don't want to make another Lego gun or something like that.

Overall I thought that it was a fun experience because it was my first time doing something like that and I enjoyed doing it. 

EOTC Week

For 4 days the year 8's went on our EOTC week. While we were doing the EOTC we did many different activities but because of the rain, we didn't do our first day. On Monday we were supposed to go to omaka scout camp and do some water activities but we didn't.

For Tuesday We went to Rehua Marae in Christchurch all we did there was listen to people talking about the history of the Marae and some other things that have happened. It was really interesting for me because I had never been to a Marae before and it was helpful learning some of the meanings of carvings on the walls.

On Wednesday we went to Adrenaline Forest and Spencer Park. I really liked adrenaline forest because I like climbing trees and having to do the obstacles to finish the different stages.

When we went to adrenalin one of the CARR values that I showed was resilience by completing the courses that I started and not going back down. While I was doing the different zip lines I got worried about something breaking but then I remembered that no matter what I wasn't going to fall off because I was all ways connected to something.

My Favorite part of it would have to be completing the course because you feel so relieved once you're on the ground and you feel a sense of achievement in your self for maybe overcoming a fear that you had.

A challenge that I had was doing the zip lines because I was worried about the zip line falling off or not being able to make it across I was also a little bit scared on the bridges because most of them were narrow

Something that I accomplished was doing the bridges because they were very wobbly and sometimes you had to do it with the wind pushing you side to side.

Overall I think that it was a fun trip and I would definitely go there again but if I did I would probably do more.

Favourite Memory In Year 8

My Favourite memory in year 8 would have to be making the hokey pokey. The reason I liked making that is that we got to eat it as well and we learned how it turns into the hokey pokey. When Caleb and I made our hokey pokey it took us forever to get it ready or to the boiling point so that we could add the baking powder which would make it expand into a big lump of golden and crunchy hokey pokey. Overall I think that the flavor was sort of bitter because it tasted burnt.

Writing about a music video

In this writing below I was writing in 1st person of a girl in the music video Happier By Marshmello and Bastille. The task we were set was to write in 1st person of the dog or human.

I was having a very hectic birthday, everyone was running around and shouting then, the cake came out and then right when I went to blow it out my friend ran over and blew the candles out so I couldn't. I slowly began to feel a tear drip down my face until my uncle walked over with a box in his hands then I opened it and there was a yellow bow. I was still sad because it was only a bow. He came back with really cute fluffy labrador then as my uncle was giving the dog to me it started licking my face when I felt a lot happier that day. My uncle took a picture of me and my pet we also put my height on the door frame with the dog's height too. As time went on we got toys and a bed for him.

When I was 15 years old we had our heights put on the door frame, later that day I had football training at school everyone was being chosen beside me then I got put into a team. When I got home I started playing with my ball with my dog. The next day we had our team photo taken and I was supposed to be in the middle holding the ball then my team pushed me out, then the guy that was taking the photo told me to smile, and I did but then everyone started laughing at my braces so then I went home and laid down on the couch. My dog was scratching at the dog so I let him in then he could tell that I was sad about my braces and I put my hand over my mouth when he tried to pull my hand away

Overall I liked doing this because we got to write about something different.

A remake of the three little wolfs

This Is what I have done so far for my story. the part that I did today was the explanation, the story is about the little wolfs and the crab.

Title: 3 little wolfs. The wolfs are the Pigs and the wolf is a Crab. Wolf 1: Gary. Wolf 2: Clark Wolf 3: Mr. Money. Crab: Mr. Crabs

Their names were Gary, Clark and Mr. Money the Crabs name was Mr. Crabs. The strongest house was made out of brick and belonged to Mr. Money. The 2nd weakest house was made out of wood planks and belonged to Clark. The weakest house was made out of sticks and belonged to Gary, and Mr. Crabs lived in an apartment On a very sunny day, the three wolves were all chilling outside when all of the sudden they heard tapping that was getting closer… then from out of nowhere, they saw a huge crab that would have weighed about 100+ kg. This crab was one that everyone feared, even the wolves...

Problem: Mr.Crabs is going to try to pull their house apart and make the pigs homeless but while he was trying to do this he couldn't get in their houses because they had defenses. The first pig called  Gary didn't have strong defenses the only defense he had was a cannon and when the wolf came the cannon didn't work so then the wolf went on.

Explanation: The reason Mr. r was doing this is that he had a really rough childhood and he couldn't stand other people being happy and he thought it was unfair that other people can be happy but not him he was also very hungry for some wolf meat.

Today for cyber smart we had to do a blog post about the capital city of one country. The city that I have chosen is Malaysia. For Malaysia, the capital city is Kaula Lumpur we had to answer 5 questions about the city here are the answers to the five questions

Persuasive writing

Blogging helps improve your learning

I think that blogging would help your learning because if you have something wrong with your work someone could comment on it and give you feedback. One example is if I had something wrong with my spelling or punctuation someone could comment on it and tell me what I did wrong, or if that had an opinion on what I wrote they could tell me that through a comment.

Something else that is good about blogging is that if there is incorrect information in your work then someone could tell you the right information about your topic. Putting your work on your blog could make you more comfortable with presenting your work.

Tuesday the 6th of November 8BH and 8TS joined up to do cyber smart of 40 munites in the learning commons. 

In cyber smart, we were learning to narrow our search results to find the best search result for what we want. 

I think we are learning to narrow our search results to find the proper search result's because it might help us to find what we are looking for and to help us in future time. 

In cyber smart, I learned to find reliable websites and websites that I can trust and have the right information, and are not spam. 

I think this might help me in the future by gathering me the right info instead of faulty info.

For Maths, we are learning about probability is the chance of something happening. For maths, Shelley had the choice of getting $5 every week or she could roll a die and 1 = $1  2 = $2   3 = $4   4 = $5   5 = $7   6 = '-.0p,n9om8ijh7ug6ft54w32$10. If she chose $5 a week she would end up with $260 and if she chose the die she would get a random amount of money. 

 If I was Shelley I would take the $5 a week and get 260 because if she chose the die one she could get a low amount of money but she would need to be lucky to get a 10.

Why cats aren't better than dogs

Why cats aren't better than dogs.

This piece of writing is me trying to persuade you that cats aren't better. The reason I think dogs are better than cats is that I have a cat and a dog at my house and the dog is a lot cheaper than the cat. I have had the dog for six years and the cat for three years, and so far the cat has cost thousands of dollars because she always gets in fights when she needs surgery and she also needs special food.

My dog is also a lot less active than my cat and mostly stays outside but the cat in inside and outside all the time and when she comes back is covered in grass and bark. My dog is cleaner than my cat and she also doesn't need to be washed nearly as much as my cat, and my dog doesn't get in fights and bring things inside. Whenever my cat doesn't have food she would wake the house up by scratching on the doors and meowing at us she also pees and poos in the house which is annoying because it smells a lot.

Overall I personally think that dogs are better than cats because they don't cost as much and don't get in fights with other dogs and normally don't come inside, they also cant get hurt and run away because they are

Most of the obstacles that are there look like they are from tree to tree things. When we go to adrenaline forest I would show resilience by trying to go on most of the obstacles that are there. I will also not give up on something if I start it. Even if I get scared of an obstacle I will still try to do it. If I do get scared of doing one of them and I really don't want to do it and my friends want me to do it I would give it a try even though I'm scared because if my friends can do it then I can do it too. Narrative Writing

On a sunny day I was in my room on my Chromebook watching youtube then all of the sudden
I begin feeling a little shaking. At first the saking wasn't bad then it stopped. While the
earthquake was happening I was feeling a little worried just in case something broke.

When the earthquake was over my mum asked, “are you two okay?” She sounded worried when
she asked if we were okay and then we both replied with, “yes,” then my mum said that she's
okay as well. Then we found out that the power had cut out we didn't worry about that because it
was day time and we didn't need lights.

Then we went through the whole house just checking incase something had broke or fell down.
While looking around we seen that one painting had fell down.

Flying A Water Rocket

Today in science my class were launching our water powered rockets. The way we made the rockets were with 1.5L bottle and some cardboard. We would cut the cardboard out into wings so then the rocket could be more air dynamic. Once we put the wings on we had to get a plate and cut out a piece of paper to match that shape that shape would turn into the tip off the rocket. When we started lunching them we had to fill the bottle up 1/3 of the way with water, then we would get the launcher and put the nozzle into the top of the bottle and then pump the air in and it then should be launched into the air.

The 3d shape I did was a square based pyramid. Making this shape was easy because it was only a few folds. My group had to chose 1 simple shape and 1 hard shape the simple shape was the only one I finished was the simple one here is a photo. My hard one was a icosahedron I didn't finish it though but this is what it would have looked like. The square based pyramid have 5 faces, 5 edges and 5 vertices. The icosahedron has 20 faces, 30 edges and 12 vertices. If you want to you can give me some feedback in the comments.
 

Paper Boy Questions

This week for my reading I had to answer questions about the novel I am reading. The book is called Paper Boy it is a very interesting book. Here are the questions.

1. What is the conflict between Ara T and Little Man? How will it be resolved?

Ara T has little man's knife and won't give it back until little man calls it by its proper name, which he can't because of his stutter so he was planning to take it back in secrecy.

2. Why do you think Little Man likes Mr Spiro so much?

Because Mr Spiro talks in a kind and cool way and little man likes talking with Mr Spiro. He also understands how little man talks and how he feels.

Research what a speech pathologist does. Explain what their job is and how they help people.

They help people that have a lisp or stutter. They are like an english but help them learn to say words without a lisp or stutter.

3. Who is Mam? Mam is like little mans teacher at home, because she helps him with his stutter and teaches him ways to get around it What is her role in the family? Her role is to look after little man if his parents arent home and to help with cooking, cleaning and things like that

4. What do you notice about the way that dialogue is written within Paperboy? I have noticed that most the time its in 1st person with little man and that it doesn't go to anyone else's brain or into first person with them.

5. Pick one character from your organiser that you have been working on. Explain them in full, giving as much detail as we know about them from Chapters 1-6. Little man : so far in the book what I know about little man is that he is a young boy with a stutter and a very fast throw. He is also a very curious boy because he went through his mother and fathers draws trying to find something which he did. He is also very friendly and always wants to know more about the world.

At first it felt as if the can was heavy which meant that it was full and happy and as if no one was being mean to it and talking about it behind its back which was a good thing.

Then we were spraying its insides out which made me feel bad, this also made me feel like a bully because we were putting it down and making it feel bad.

After we sprayed it all out we held the can again and this time it was a lot lighter but it still looked the same, the only things that had changed was its weight. Feeling that it was lighter gave me the sense that it was lonely and sad because everyone had been talking bad about it.

Overall I think this was a good experience because it help me realise how some people feel.

Persuasive Writing about Respect

I think its important to show respect because if you don't show respect to things or other people it might hurt their feelings which isn't good for you and the other person. Showing respect could be a lot of things. Showing respect and be just saying thank you and please. You can also show respect by waiting for something. You could also hold open the door for someone or let someone else go through the door first. You can also sow respect by not throwing things inside or yelling in a quiet place. Also picking something up that someone has dropped could make their day.

Buying a Class pet

Caleb and I have worked together to chose a class pet with a budget of $150. Together we chose frog because its really cheap and its unique.  It also doesn't make as much noise as other pets can

Valedictorian Saying Nice Things About Other Students

At a High School the valadictorian was secretly posting things about other student in his school. But he wasn't just posting things about them he was saying nice things about them. He was also complimenting them on the work they're doing and how well they do it. I think that he is really nice for doing that for a lot of people. I wonder why he didn't make that account his name instead of making it something random, it could have crept people out because someone's saying nice things about them and they didn't know who it was. Overall I think this person deserves student of the year.

What I think of Paper Boy

My thoughts about Paper Boy are that I think its going to be interesting. One of the reasons why I thinks its going to be interesting is because already he has ran into a kid that kept asking him questions and testing how well he can talk, It also keeps geting really intense.

Something Respectful I Did Today

Being Respectful

Today when I woke up in the morning I saw my cat sitting out side of my door. When is saw her I thought she might have wanted food. Whenever she sits outside of my door she always has no food in her bowl. So I went and checked and there was no food. Then I went to the cupboard, grabbed her food and walked to the bathroom where her food bowl is and filled it up. The way I think that's showing respect is because I could have just walked away but I didn't.

The next day Robbie and Calvin seen each other at lunch and Robbie had heard what happened to Calvin and he felt bad about it and he felt bad for Calvin. Robbie then avoids talking to Calvin the day goes by and at the end of school Robbie walks over to Calvin and he says sorry for everything he said about his mum. Then Robbie also said that he should have never assumed that his mum was an alcoholic because she woke up late in her pajamas. Then after that they both went their separate ways, they would greet each other when they seen each other in school and outside of school.

New School

The Updated Part Of School

My opinion on the new part of school is that I really like is that you can be  and all the new things you can do in there. One thing that I don't like that much is how small all the areas are and the amount of people that are in the one space. That Is my opinion on the new part of school.

The Food Bank

The food bank is a place or website that people can contact or visit if they are struggling to find the money to buy food. All the food they donate is from other very nice people that donate the food to them. They donate thousands of food parcels to the people in need every year. One way you could donate food to them is by finding their web site. From there they would be able to help you find your local food bank.

Explanation Writing

This is my Explanation writing. This week we got to chose what we wanted to write about, so I chose to do mine about Cheetahs.

Question I am Answering:How cheetahs run fast

The way cheetahs run fast and the way they hunt their prey and chase them down. The cheetahs can
run very fast but not very long their longest running time is around 13 - 14 seconds.

How the legs move fast

Their claws are always out and are non-retractable so they can run faster with extra grip. Cheetahs
have a very different spine as it can expand and then retract to give their legs a boost, This allows
them to be able to run very fast but if they don't catch their prey within a very short time they will
stop chasing them.

Hunting prey

When a Cheetah spots food it will slowly sneak up on it until they are close enough to chase
it down, but this isn't always what happens, they don't always end up with their food they wanted.
Cheetahs are the fastest land animal on earth but they cant run as long as other animals. Things like
a rabbit can run fast and outrun them if the cheetah has no breath left.

Performance

One that makes Cheetahs super fast is their genetics. If they didn't have their genetics they would be
a lot slower than they are now. Most cheetahs run the same way but cheetahs that are born with
deformations may not be able to run as fast as others.

 

Matariki Reading

Today for read I did another form this about what I now know about Matariki. This Is some of what I have learned from reading the article

Matariki is the sign of the Maori new year. Matariki has 9 stars in it and the 7 of them are the sisters. Matariki is a constellation of stars that happen once every year, and it doesn't happen at the same time every year.

Matariki is really interesting for me as it teaches me new things about my culture and New Zealand.

The SVA is a group of lots of students that live in Christchurch, they help people that have suffered in the earthquakes. The group has around 3,000 people in it. The SVA started in 2011 with around 300 people in it. The group just kept expanding, they also donate food to the people that dont have much food.
