Aim: To make a dilution series to investigate.
Method: To place 6 test tubes in a test tube rack 1-6
- Using the measuring cylinder, fill test tube 1 with 10 mL of water. Using the 5 remaining test tubes with 5 mL of water.
- Using tweezers, add a single crystal of potassium permanganate to a test tube.
- Gently shake the test tube to the potassium permanganate has dissolved.
- Rinse the transfer pipette thoroughly to the purple solution is gone
- Gently shake test tube 2 and repeat the process, transfer exactly 5 mL of the solution from test tube 2 to 3
- Rinse the transfer pipette thoroughly again and repeat the transfer process for test tube 4, 5 and 6.
The results: First we added the solute which was potassium pomegranate into the test tube the water started turning purple then all the water went purple. Once that happened we to 5ml out of the first one which had 10ml in it with a pipette then transferred it into another test tube that had 5ml in it then we repeated that with our other test tubes. While we were doing that the other one got lighter purple.
Brilliant description in your results of what has happened. Make sure to include a discussion where you try to explain what has happened- using words like dilute and concentrated. Also a picture would have been great for this experiment as it created such a pretty purple :)
